LO5

Post production

I selected my clip and then went into the inspector window I used the Flip tool to invert some of my clips so that they were facing the direction I preferred, so that the movement of my clips felt more consistent.

I selected my clip and then went into the inspector window and used the zoom and positioning y axes tool to crop out the part of my hand that was still in frame.

I went into my colour window and added a yellow colour filter to my clips by altering the colour wheel tool, to make them appear warmer and give cozier connotations by using the colour wheel tool.

I used the text tool in my effects window to add in my title and lengthened it to my first scene, I chose a jitter effect for this text, I changed the jitter speed using the bar I circled in red above as I felt the movement looked to harsh. I positioned my text using the Y and X bars and sized it to fill in the background but not overlap onto the character. I faded in this text with a blur transition.

I added in a colour filter transition from the transitions window in-between two clips, in white to correlate with the previous clip, I think using white transition to blur out and revile the picnic scene highlights that this is the final goal for my character.

I used a cross dissolve transition from the transitions window in-between two clips to seamlessly transition two clips together that I felt were to long, I didn't want to use a cut transition as I felt it looked to harsh.

I used the stabilization bars in my inspector window and selected my clip to make it less shaky, I also did this to some of my other clips where I felt it needed it.

I editing in my folly sound that I recorded, this made my product feel more realistic and immersive.

Analysis of post production techniques
Digital editing has enhanced my lighting and camera work in my final product.
Filming with a small aperture while using daylight as my light source instead of a warm fill light, meant I could not create the warm summery aesthetic I was hoping to achieve in my footage, I used colour grading to add a yellow/orange filter in post to allow my clips to look warmer and more vibrant. This emphasized my nature theme and made my product have friendly connotations due to warm vivid colours that connote energy, happiness and emphasized the aesthetic of comfort to the viewer.

In post production, cutting together my camera work to showcase both POV and panning shots together made my product more immersive, as my viewer will be seeing both what the character is doing and how they view their setting as a small mythical creature. This helped me to show the distortion of the environment due to their small size. Editing also allowed me to correct any imperfections in my clips, such as zooming in shots to cut out hands interfering with the shot, and inverting shots that were directed the wrong way so that the movement in my clips together were more fluid.

Rearranging and ordering my clips using editing software helped me to improve the flow of narrative in my product, it also helped with the pacing of my product to match the story's mood as I wanted to include slow calm still shots while still engaging the viewer with movement and different scenery.

The original folly sound I recorded for this product, helped to emphasize camera movement, and help the viewer to understand that even though the clip cut to the next shot the movement in the scenes still continues, helping the viewer to understand the story line and theme of adventure. Layering sound using editing software helped to enhance realism and create atmosphere.

Using visual effects such as adding dynamic text helped to give my product story book connotations, which I wanted as I am hoping to convey a fairytale theme.
