Changing settings on DSLR and setting up cameras on tripod

To get the same long shot of the character with both lenses I fully zoomed in I had to place the camera closer when using the 10-24mm ultra-wide-angle zoom lens, this lens allowed me to capture a much broader scene than a standard lens, allowing me to fit a lot into the frame, to use this lens in production it would allow me to emphasize the setting of a location I am filming, for example I can show a wide shot of an expansive meadow while my character look small as they are surrounded by their setting making it look grander than a 18-55mm standard lens would.
